According to our recent study on <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/iGen-Gen-Z-Political-Civic-Outlook-Research-White-Paper-c-2016-The-Center-for-Generational-Kinetics.pdf\" rel=\"noopener\">iGen\u2019s Political &amp; Civic Outlook<\/a><\/span>, they\u2019ve taken a pretty hard look and have a seemingly dismal view about many aspects of our society and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"\/most-of-gen-z-cant-vote-yet-but-nearly-half-still-think-voting-is-important\/\" rel=\"noopener\">political culture<\/a><\/span>. Distrust in <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"\/gen-z-does-not-trust-elected-officials-product-of-life-stage-or-deeper-problem\/\" rel=\"noopener\">elected officials<\/a><\/span>, dissatisfaction with the way our country is run and the direction of our economy, and deep problems like <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"\/minorities-women-given-fair-shake-business-heres-gen-z-thinks\/\" rel=\"noopener\">gender and racial inequality<\/a><\/span>, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"\/heres-gen-z-thinks-future-affordable-healthcare\/\" rel=\"noopener\">access to healthcare<\/a><\/span>, and illegal immigration don\u2019t paint a pretty picture for this generation, nor does it give us any indication on how they will react.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-2842 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/genhq.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Gen-Z-Believes-in-the-American-Dream.jpg\" alt=\"Gen Z Believes in the American Dream\" width=\"870\" height=\"607\" srcset=\"https:\/\/genhq.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Gen-Z-Believes-in-the-American-Dream.jpg 870w, https:\/\/genhq.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Gen-Z-Believes-in-the-American-Dream-300x209.jpg 300w, https:\/\/genhq.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Gen-Z-Believes-in-the-American-Dream-768x536.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 870px) 100vw, 870px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>So in light of all this apparent negativity, how does Gen Z feel about that quintessential American ideal, the \u201cAmerican Dream\u201d?<\/p>\n<p>It turns out that while Gen Z recognizes some <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"\/study-reveals-how-the-youngest-generation-feels-about-politics\/\" rel=\"noopener\">very real problems<\/a><\/span> facing our country, they aren\u2019t ready to quit society altogether or make a collective exodus overseas. Perhaps this might change after the results of the upcoming election, but, in fact, the study revealed that more than any other generation, Gen Z believes in the American Dream.<\/p>\n<p>What is the American Dream, exactly? In our study, we defined it as the ideal that no matter where you as an individual start out in life, whether new to the U.S., currently poor or facing other challenges, that you have an equal opportunity in America to achieve success through hard work, determination, and initiative.<\/p>\n<p><strong>We discovered that 78% of Gen Z believes this version of American Dream is attainable! <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This tells us A LOT about this generation because this view of the American Dream doesn\u2019t align with a group of critical naysayers ready to abandon all hope. On the contrary, we believe that Gen Z is simply pragmatic and realistic, much like their Gen X parents. They have only known the bust \u2013 not the boom \u2013 of the economy, which makes them cautious and practical in their assessment of their future prospects.
