Millennials are now advancing in their careers and assuming leadership positions at an astounding rate.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4964\" src=\"https:\/\/genhq.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/millennialboss.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"870\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaking the transition from employee to manager is a critical step for Millennials and Gen Z, not just in terms of learning but in terms of overall career pathway, speed of promotion, and other opportunities,\u201d explained <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/jasondorsey.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jason Dorsey<\/a>,<\/span> president of The Center for Generational Kinetics, in an <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/time.com\/money\/5400186\/leadership-boss-manager-best-books\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">interview with Time<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Dorsey emphasized that being a boss is more about practices, behaviors, and mindset than a mere title, and becoming a good boss is more complicated still. For Millennials looking for a place to start, Dorsey recommends reading <em>How to Win Friends and Influence People<\/em>. Though it\u2019s been around for nearly a century, it still has sage advice for new bosses.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of the biggest pitfalls facing <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"\/why-do-millennial-employees-need-strong-leadership\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">first-time managers<\/a><\/span> is that leadership still has to be earned,\u201d Dorsey said. \u201cThis is particularly true when you\u2019re leading employees and team members for the first time and they are older than yourself, which is now a common situation facing both Millennials and Gen Z.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The challenges of an <a href=\"\/how-to-get-your-office-ready-for-gen-z\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">inter-generational workforce<\/span><\/a> do not stop at leadership, though. For the first time ever, there are five generations working together in the workforce, which presents obstacles in everything from <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"\/3-things-employers-need-to-know-about-gen-z\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recruitment<\/a>,<\/span> onboarding, retention, and more.
