However, more than half of those new hires turn over annually, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/auto-dealers-struggle-to-recruit-retain-younger-workers-1535016600\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according to a study by Hireology<\/a>,<\/span> a talent and management firm.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4726\" src=\"https:\/\/genhq.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/CarDealers.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"870\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In fact, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/auto-dealers-struggle-to-recruit-retain-younger-workers-1535016600\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according to the Wall Street Journal<\/a>,<\/span> Nissan Motor Co. reported a 100% turnover for sales staff at its dealerships in 2017. That means some positions are turning over more than once a year, a rate that is costly for dealers in both time and money.<\/p>\n<p>So how can dealers make Millennials both interested and invested in a career in car sales?<\/p>\n<h4>Pay a flat salary<\/h4>\n<p>The primary reason Millennials are averse to working in dealerships is that the job is typically commission-based, and many Millennials are looking for jobs with stable, guaranteed pay. With so much <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"\/millennial-savings-perceptions-vs-reality\/\">debt weighing on their shoulders<\/a>,<\/span> it comes as no surprise that Millennials would shy away from a job where pay is conditional.<\/p>\n<p>According to the WSJ, more dealerships are beginning to not only increase pay and make it less tied to specific sales goals, but also shortening workday hours and offering free college tuition for employees who stay.<\/p>\n<h4>Modernize the image<\/h4>\n<p>Many Millennials have a certain preconceived notion of what a car salesperson looks like and sounds like.
