{"id":4538,"date":"2018-05-15T20:19:56","date_gmt":"2018-05-15T20:19:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/genhq.com\/?p=4538"},"modified":"2022-07-23T07:59:51","modified_gmt":"2022-07-23T07:59:51","slug":"what-does-gen-z-value-in-the-workplace","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/genhq.com\/what-does-gen-z-value-in-the-workplace\/","title":{"rendered":"What Does Gen Z Value in the Workplace?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With Baby Boomers on the brink of retirement and Gen X and Millennials squarely in the driver\u2019s seat when it comes to the workforce, Gen Z is poised to come in and shake things up.<\/p>\n<p>According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2018\/05\/01\/61-million-gen-zers-about-to-enter-us-workforce-and-change-it.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">recent CNBC article<\/span><\/a>, the oldest Gen Zers are graduating college, and are about to enter the workforce with an entirely new set of expectations.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4540\" src=\"https:\/\/genhq.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/Gen-Z-Entering-The-Work-Force.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"870\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<h4>Gen Z wants to work hard and learn<\/h4>\n<p>\u201cThese Gen Zers have seen their parents struggle financially [due to the recession and student loan crisis], so parents are having conversations about finances, money and debt with kids earlier. They\u2019re having conversations older generations never really had before,\u201d said Dr. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"\/what-does-gen-z-value-at-work-register-for-our-live-webinar-to-find-out\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Denise Villa, CEO<\/a><\/span> of The Center for Generational Kinetics.<\/p>\n<p>In The Center\u2019s most recent study, 35% of Gen Z surveyed said they plan to start saving for retirement in their 20s. Twelve percent (and keep in mind, many of the people in this survey were still teens) say they\u2019ve already started saving.<\/p>\n<h4>Smarter recruiting<\/h4>\n<p>Hiring Gen Z will require changing up your recruitment strategies. Simply placing a \u201cHelp Wanted\u201d sign in the window isn\u2019t going to work for them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThink of your company as a brand,\u201d said <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"\/what-does-gen-z-value-at-work-register-for-our-live-webinar-to-find-out\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Heather Watson, Behavioral Designer<\/a><\/span> at The Center for Generational Kinetics. \u201cWhat makes it unique? What makes it fun? How do you visually show that?\u201d<\/p>\n<h4>Have a fun workplace<\/h4>\n<p>The top thing Gen Z looks for in a job is a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"\/5-ways-to-make-your-company-gen-z-friendly\/\" rel=\"noopener\">fun place to work<\/a><\/span>. While a flexible schedule and paid time off were not far behind. But while they want to have fun, that doesn\u2019t mean they\u2019re not serious, explained Villa.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey want to work,\u201d said Villa. \u201cThey want to do a very good job at that position. They\u2019re not looking at climbing the ranks quickly.
