{"id":4478,"date":"2018-04-03T20:12:32","date_gmt":"2018-04-03T20:12:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/genhq.com\/?p=4478"},"modified":"2022-07-25T14:05:19","modified_gmt":"2022-07-25T14:05:19","slug":"millennials-understand-money-better-think","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/genhq.com\/millennials-understand-money-better-think\/","title":{"rendered":"Millennials Understand Money Better Than You Think"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A new survey shows that when it comes to money and finances, Millennials might have a better handle on things than their <a href=\"\/the-generations-hub\/generational-faqs\/\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">parents\u2019 generation<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4479\" src=\"https:\/\/genhq.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/Millennials-money-knowledge.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"870\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"http:\/\/observer.com\/2018\/01\/money-millennials-understand-better-parents\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">recent poll conducted<\/span><\/a> by the Bank of America found that Millennials outscored Baby Boomers in almost every aspect of personal finance, from savings and budget awareness to the overall degree of financial security.<\/p>\n<h4>Millennials ask for raises more than other generations.<\/h4>\n<p>The poll found that almost half of the Millennials surveyed asked for a pay raise in the past two years, and 80% of those who asked for a raise got one. Gen X, on the other hand, lags behind Millennials by a full 10 percent\u2014even though they are mid-career.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s also important for employers to note that many Millennials entered the workforce during a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"\/moments-shape-generation\/\" rel=\"noopener\">severe economic recession<\/a><\/span>. The survey found that <strong>one in four<\/strong> Millennials has been laid off. Seeing Millennials in this context can help explain why many <a href=\"\/job-hopping-new-normal-millennials\/\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">hop from job to job<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>If you are like so many other employers who have a revolving door of Millennial workers, check out The Center\u2019s research on Millennials in the workplace <a href=\"\/Millennials-Gen-Y-Generation-Y-info\/\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">here<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<h4>Millennial parents are more cost-aware about having children.<\/h4>\n<p>Thirty percent of Millennials said that money played a major role in their decision to have kids. In contrast, only 22% of Gen X and 9% of Baby Boomers said the same. In fact, 27% of older Millennials have already started saving for their children\u2019s education, despite the fact that many are still paying off <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"\/rising-student-debt-weighs-heavily-millennials\/\" rel=\"noopener\">their own student debt<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMillennials get older and wiser due to their age and life experience,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/jasondorsey.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Jason Dorsey<\/span><\/a><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">,<\/span> president of the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Center for Generational Kinetics<\/a>,<\/span> told <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/observer.com\/2018\/01\/money-millennials-understand-better-parents\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Observer<\/a><\/span>. \u201cThey certainly have more experience, and there is greater responsibility and less sympathy for them making poor financial decisions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While it\u2019s true that Millennials are putting off big purchases and big life milestones until later in life, their knowledge of finances cannot be underestimated.<\/p>\n<p><em>Do you have a generational challenge with sales, marketing, strategy, or employment that you want solved?
