Many came out of college in the middle of the Great Recession and are just now getting settled in their careers. In fact, back in 2015, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"\/importance-word-millennial\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Millennials<\/a><\/span> edged out Gen X as the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/fact-tank\/2015\/05\/11\/millennials-surpass-gen-xers-as-the-largest-generation-in-u-s-labor-force\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">largest generation<\/a><\/span> in the US workforce.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4429\" src=\"https:\/\/genhq.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/MillennialsWTBOB.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"870\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p>But Millennials don\u2019t want to be <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"\/millennial-entrepreneurs-impacting-big-industries-making-headlines\/\" rel=\"noopener\">another cog in the machine<\/a><\/span>. True to form, Millennials are looking for purpose and fulfillment in their careers. Not only do they want to enjoy their careers, they want to be in control.<\/p>\n<p>Here are three reasons why Millennials want to be their own boss, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/sarahlandrum\/2018\/01\/05\/millennials-want-to-be-their-own-boss-and-heres-why\/#4a23141f47fa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">according to Forbes<\/span><\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><strong>1.Millennials don\u2019t trust the status quo.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Millennials are not like their Baby Boomer parents, who stayed in the same career \u2013 and even company \u2013 for decades. Instead, Millennials have worked to gain experience in multiple fields and honed many different skill-sets before settling into the \u201cright\u201d job.<\/p>\n<p>Even then, 60% of Millennials currently employed are open to a new job opportunity.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2.Millennials want control over their money.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Millennials may not be <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"\/gen-z-2017-research-infographic-stats-money-saving-debt\/\" rel=\"noopener\">as frugal as their Gen Z counterparts<\/a>,<\/span> but living through a recession inspired them take caution with money. They are distrustful of the stock market and prefer to handle money themselves. This self-confidence has boosted their drive to not only be their own boss, but also to create their own businesses.<\/p>\n<p>Roughly 75% of the 2,000 top-earning Millennials surveyed thought it was likely that they\u2019d start their own company.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li><strong> Millennials have a non-traditional view of leadership. <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>In a recent study by WorkplaceTrends, nearly 50% of Millennials defined leadership as empowering others to succeed rather than selecting the actual definition. In their eyes, leadership is about collaboration.<\/p>\n<p>Not only are Millennials great at being their own bosses, but they\u2019re great assets to already-existing companies since <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"\/kraft-heinzs-new-cfo-29-years-old-millennial\/\" rel=\"noopener\">they tend to inspire<\/a> <\/span>those who work for them.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen Millennials get the opportunity to take the wheel, they\u2019ll bring others up with them so the job market becomes a more positive place driven by teamwork,\u201d says <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/sarahlandrum\/2018\/01\/05\/millennials-want-to-be-their-own-boss-and-heres-why\/#4a23141f47fa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sarah Landrum for Forbes<\/a>. \u201cThey know what it\u2019s like to face hardships alone, so they want to change the workplace to make sure it doesn\u2019t happen to the generation that comes after them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Does Gen Z \u2013 the generation after Millennials \u2013 have this same proclivity for leadership?
