The debate often centers on whether Millennials\u2019 parents and grandparents will outlive their retirement savings and\/or be able to provide a transfer of wealth through life insurance or assets, such as real estate. Many experts predict that the intergenerational wealth transfer will be in the trillions of dollars.<\/p>\n<p>Tom Naratil, President of UBS Americas, and J\u00fcrg Zeltner, President of UBS Wealth Management say we are on the brink\u00a0of one of the &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/ubs-on-millennials-expectations-of-money-management-2017-6\/#transparency-3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">largest intergenerational wealth transfers\u00a0in history<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Overlooked in this eye-popping conversation about trillions of dollars is that this transfer of wealth\u2014whether actually trillions of dollars or hundreds of billions of dollars\u2014will add tremendous fuel to Millennials ever-growing impact on the banking sector.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4178\" src=\"https:\/\/genhq.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/intergenerational-welth-transfer.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"870\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/genhq.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/intergenerational-welth-transfer.jpg 870w, https:\/\/genhq.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/intergenerational-welth-transfer-300x172.jpg 300w, https:\/\/genhq.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/intergenerational-welth-transfer-768x441.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 870px) 100vw, 870px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>With a significant amount of money passing into Millennial hands, banks must\u00a0be poised to accept and unlock the potential of serving this new clientele. Tailoring\u00a0banking practices towards a Millennial focus will become essential in order for banks, as well as credit unions and fintech, to survive and thrive as potentially trillions of dollars shift to Millennials. Below are the\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/ubs-on-millennials-expectations-of-money-management-2017-6\/#multi-channel-delivery-2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">three interesting factors<\/a><\/span> a bank should consider\u2014and all consumers should know about\u2014as banks look to adapt to the new and emerging generational preferences of Millennials:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong> Convenience is Everything<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The Millennial generation is the generation of on-demand everything. No matter what they need, there&#8217;s an app for that. The development of technology and the smartphone has created a generation that expects to be able to get whatever they need, when they need it. Whether it&#8217;s hailing a ride, reading the news, or video chatting with a friend half-way across the world, the Millennial generation wants to be able to do it now and in the click of a button (or tap on a smartphone screen!). To attract and retain Millennial customers bank leaders must <strong>develop a strong online presence and a mobile app or mobile-first experience to give Millennials the convenience they demand.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li><strong> Multi-Channel Delivery<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Yes, Millennials want to be able to access everything through their phones. However, that doesn&#8217;t mean traditional banks should close shop. In fact,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/ubs-on-millennials-expectations-of-money-management-2017-6\/#multi-channel-delivery-2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UBS<\/a>\u00a0found that Millennials are nearly two times more likely to visit a branch in person, and are three times as likely to converse with a broker in person. <strong>Banks must still emphasize\u00a0building relationships with their customers in person, but make it easy for customers to chose <em>how<\/em> they want to have that relationship for different types of interactions.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li><strong> Transparency\u00a0is Expected<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Growing up in an online-first economy dramatically raised Millennial\u00a0expectations about corporate and banking transparency of information, fees, corporate responsibility, and inclusion.
