In fact, Millennials take the lead on other generations in reading and still generally prefer print books to e-books. As reported in Forbes, last year, 72% of Americans read a print book, dwarfing the share who read an e-book (35%) or listened to an audiobook (16%).<\/p>\n<p>According to\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pewinternet.org\/2016\/09\/01\/book-reading-2016\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the latest Pew Research Center survey on book reading<\/a><\/span>, 18- to 29-year-olds are the age group most likely to have read a book in <em>any<\/em> format over the past year. When asked why they read books or any written content in general (such as magazines or blogs), Millennials are far more likely than older generations to say that it\u2019s for a specific purpose, such as work, school, or research. But they\u2019re <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/neilhowe\/2017\/01\/16\/millennials-a-generation-of-page-turners\/#43009c965786\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">also equally likely<\/a><\/span> to read \u201cfor pleasure\u201d or \u201cto keep up with current events.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Last year, a study conducted by the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.arts.gov\/artistic-fields\/research-analysis\/arts-data-profiles\/arts-data-profile-10\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">National Endowment of the Arts<\/a><\/span> (NEA) found that\u00a043% of 18- to 34-year-olds specifically read literature (defined as novels, plays, short stories, or poems not required by work or school), outmatched only by Baby Boomers at 49%.\u00a0An older NEA report also found that<\/p>\n<p>Forbes found that, according to an older NEA report,\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.arts.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/ReadingonRise.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the percentage of 18- to 24-year-olds who read literature rose sharply starting in 2002<\/a><\/span>,\u00a0when this age group began to be dominated by Millennials. Perhaps there&#8217;s no coincidence that this was right in the middle of the <em>Harry Potter<\/em> phenomenon!<\/p>\n<p>It remains to be seen whether Gen Z, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"\/gen-z-vs-millennials-tell-difference\/\" rel=\"noopener\">the generation after Millennials<\/a><\/span>, will continue this trend, but it seems likely considering their <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"\/most-of-gen-z-cant-vote-yet-but-nearly-half-still-think-voting-is-important\/\" rel=\"noopener\">social consciousness<\/a><\/span>, although they might tend more towards book related apps given their reliance on <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"\/gen-z-mobile-technology-3-things-know\/\" rel=\"noopener\">mobile technology<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>How often do you read books, either in print or on an e-reader?
