In fact, many resist the neutral title of pet \u201cowner\u201d and rather consider themselves cat \u201cparents.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3861\" src=\"https:\/\/genhq.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/11.18.16.jpg\" alt=\"11-18-16\" width=\"870\" height=\"580\" srcset=\"https:\/\/genhq.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/11.18.16.jpg 870w, https:\/\/genhq.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/11.18.16-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/genhq.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/11.18.16-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 870px) 100vw, 870px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>But it\u2019s not just their Instagram feed that <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"\/generations-gen-y-millennials-research\/sales-marketing-market-research\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Millennial consumers<\/a><\/span> are devoting to their cats and dogs. According to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.purina.com\/better-with-pets\/8-ways-millennials-are-defining-pet-ownership#\/large-image\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Purina<\/a><\/span>, a significant chunk of Millennials\u2019 holiday spending budget will go towards pet accessories, gifts, and organic food.<\/p>\n<p>In fact,\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pwc.com\/holidayoutlook16\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PwC\u2019s 2016 Holiday Outlook<\/a><\/span>\u00a0study predicts that consumers overall will spend an average of $62 on their pets, but <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.consumeraffairs.com\/news\/millennials-will-spend-the-most-on-their-pets-this-holiday-season-111416.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Millennial pet owners will shell out<\/a><\/span> an average of $81 each on their furry companions!<\/p>\n<p>Why?<\/p>\n<p>Many Millennials are still putting off getting married and having children, waiting longer than any other generation to do so. But the one thing that Millennials are doing sooner than Boomers is getting pets! According to a\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pijac.org\/sites\/default\/files\/pdfs\/2014T2TpptRichter.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wakefield study<\/a><\/span>, the average Millennial gets his or her first pet at age 21, much earlier than the average Boomer, who waited until 29. The study found that both groups think of pets as family, but many Millennials view owning a pet as preparation for future adult responsibilities.<\/p>\n<p>Much of Millennial consumers\u2019 hefty pet budget is spent on \u201cnon-essential\u201d pet items, such as clothing, toys, and designer beds.<\/p>\n<p>And if Millennials are known to shell out money for cold pressed juice, organic produce, and free range chicken, you can bet they keep the same food preferences for their pets.
