But <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"\/Millennials-Gen-Y-Generation-Y-info\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Millennials<\/a><\/span> aren\u2019t the only generation to pay attention to in the workplace. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"\/igen\" rel=\"noopener\">Generation Z<\/a><\/span>, the generation after Millennials, is coming into the workforce en masse as its oldest members are about to graduate college.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3701\" src=\"https:\/\/genhq.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/0907-PT-1.jpg\" alt=\"0907-pt-1\" width=\"800\" height=\"516\" srcset=\"https:\/\/genhq.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/0907-PT-1.jpg 800w, https:\/\/genhq.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/0907-PT-1-300x194.jpg 300w, https:\/\/genhq.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/0907-PT-1-768x495.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Here are some basics you need to know about Gen Z in the workplace before you hire them:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3702\" src=\"https:\/\/genhq.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/0907-PT-2.jpg\" alt=\"0907-pt-2\" width=\"800\" height=\"680\" srcset=\"https:\/\/genhq.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/0907-PT-2.jpg 800w, https:\/\/genhq.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/0907-PT-2-300x255.jpg 300w, https:\/\/genhq.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/0907-PT-2-768x653.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>They prefer face-to-face conversations.<\/strong> A recent survey conducted by Future Workplace and Randstad revealed that 39% of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fastcompany.com\/3063473\/digitally-native-gen-z-still-wants-to-communicate-in-person-at-work\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gen Z prefers in-person communication<\/a><\/span> to digital alternatives, such as email, social networking, and video conferencing.<\/li>\n<li><strong>They want to work <em>in<\/em> your office<\/strong>, as opposed to working from home or at a co-working space.<\/li>\n<li><strong>They admit they\u2019re distracted by social media<\/strong>. According to a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/time.com\/money\/4476832\/millennials-generation-z-workers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recent Time article<\/a><\/span>, Gen Z is somewhat more likely than their Millennial co-workers to blame social media for distracting them during the workday. The main culprits? Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and Reddit.<\/li>\n<li><strong>They want to be mentored<\/strong>. Though the percentage has slightly fallen in the past few years, nearly half (49%) of Gen Z still say they want to be mentored by their bosses.<\/li>\n<li><strong>They value traditional benefits<\/strong>. Though in-office perks like free snacks and a Ping-Pong table might seem attractive to younger workers, Gen Z still seeks out work that will provide traditional benefits, such as healthcare and a competitive salary. In fact, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2016\/08\/30\/gen-z-is-about-to-hit-the-workforce-heres-what-they-want-in-a-job.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according to CNBC.com<\/a>, Gen Z is more willing to relocate or work nights and weekends to secure a job with a competitive salary than previous generations!<\/li>\n<li><strong>They\u2019re self-motivated.<\/strong> The CNBC article found that 76% of Gen Z sees themselves as in control of shaping their own career paths, and nearly half of Gen Z respondents said they want to have their own businesses, compared to 32 percent across all working generations.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3703\" src=\"https:\/\/genhq.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/0907-PT-3.jpg\" alt=\"0907-pt-3\" width=\"800\" height=\"764\" srcset=\"https:\/\/genhq.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/0907-PT-3.jpg 800w, https:\/\/genhq.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/0907-PT-3-300x287.jpg 300w, https:\/\/genhq.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/0907-PT-3-768x733.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Are you ready for Gen Z in your workplace?\u00a0<strong><em><em><strong>J<\/strong><strong>oin the conversation on Twitter with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/whatthegen\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">@WhatTheGen<\/a>\u00a0or<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jasondorsey\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">@JasonDorsey<\/a>.
