CGK President Jason Dorsey had the honor of keynoting FINRA’s Annual Conference in Washington, D.C. recently, an event made even more meaningful to him as his first “real” job was interning in financial services at age 18!

Jason was very grateful to be invited to keynote FINRA’s big annual event for senior leaders representing every aspect of financial services, from the biggest financial services companies to government leaders, regulators, compliance experts, and fintech pioneers!

FINRA is a critically important regulatory organization that ensures everything is running fairly, smoothly, ethically, and legally when it comes to financial services and investing and its linchpin role in the financial system. They help protect everyone ranging from individual investors to professional stakeholders at every level. In short, you can’t overstate how important FINRA is to families, individuals, businesses, and the overall integrity of the financial investment system.

FINRA’s national meeting had over 1,500 senior leaders attending in person and 1,000 more joining virtually—and the energy was palpable! Jason was thrilled to share CGK’s new behavioral discoveries about each generation of investor, how to drive more inclusion across generations, research-based strategies for quickly building connection and trust, and why the industry is so important to every generation.

Happy almost end of 2023! As the year draws to a close, we asked our President, Jason Dorsey, to share his 10 favorite highlights and unexpected moments from his adventures this year. Ten Favorite Memories of 2023 from CGK’s President:

10. Being a Spokesperson for Hilton

Yes, my first global spokesperson role! I loved this partnership because I got to collaborate on their global research study—with over 10,000 participants—and then film at a variety of Hilton hotels. The commercial they created is one of my favorite work products I’ve ever been a part of and speaks directly to Hilton’s commitment to insights, guest experience, and excellence. 9. Speaking to CEOs in Cartagena, Colombia

This was a surreal experience for me because I got to speak in Colombia to CEOs from across Latin America and speak at an event where the other two keynotes were Jamie Dimon and Leon Panetta! This was my seventh event for JP Morgan and they asked me to share our most unexpected discoveries and CEO strategies. Plus, I got to visit a new country and explore the wonderful port city of Cartagena.

8. Getting a Standing O’ From 4,000 Leaders

Sales leaders and entrepreneurs need to be constantly learning and evolving in order to grow in competitive markets. Understanding generations and how to build trust, connection, and influence across them is a fast track to driving growth and personal development. In November, I got to share these insights and some of my favorite stories and strategies with over 4,000 leaders in Charlotte. My message received a standing ovation and they have already booked me to keynote their next major conference!

7. Speaking for The Orlando Magix—3x!

I love sports. No doubt about it. Pretty much any sport, too. I love all the elements of peak performance, team dynamics, and the business aspects of running professional sports teams. I was fortunate to speak at three different events for the Orlando Magic this year. They have a great organizational culture and are led by visionaries in the space who have driven tremendous gains for the franchise and its global reach. They are so generous that they even hosted me, Rya, and Denise courtside! Rya got to meet some players, executives, and be in the tunnel when the team came out. They know how to put on an unforgettable fan experience!!!

6. Visiting Clients in Greece with my Family

Greece is one of my favorite places to visit. I enjoy meeting with the people, exploring the history, trying all the food(!), and supporting its rapidly growing entrepreneurial scene. On this trip, Rya and Denise came with me and got to experience the country as well as attend some of my business events. International work is one of my favorite parts of our research, speaking, and advising and it’s made even better on the rare occasions when my family gets to travel with me. I’ve been working with a Greek technology company since 2011!

5. Creating my New Speaking Brand for 2024

After so many years of focusing on delivering unique research and customized speaking around the world, our team has turned our attention to evolving my speaking and advising brand to better fit our insights, engagement, and solutions. Our team has been hard at work on a new speaking preview video, a new speaking website, and much more. All of these will be released in January 2024. I am incredibly excited to reach even more leaders around the world with my discoveries, stories, humor, and practical strategies!

4. Speaking for COACH Three Times This Year

I believe working in retail provides a valuable foundation for connecting with different people, learning how business works, and developing professional skills. (I feel the same about working in restaurants!) Having worked in retail as a teenager—including learning to count back change—I was thrilled to speak for COACH and then be invited to speak two more times. The capstone event for me was keynoting their General Manager Conference for all their store managers from across North America. They loved the insights and practical strategies and I loved their energy. Plus, I received a standing ovation! The best part: they had an entire day of learning focused on Gen Z and everyone got a copy of our latest book, Zconomy.

3. Publishing Zconomy in 7 Different Languages

Yes, Zconomy is now available in seven different languages around the world. In fact, the book continues to sell more each year as the importance, relevance, and urgency of understanding Gen Z as employees, consumers, and trendsetters only grows. Dr. Villa and I were thrilled to research and write Zconomy and are inspired to see comments—including rave reviews—from readers all around the world. So amazing. My favorite part is hearing about the impact of leaders implementing the practical strategies in the book to drive results within their organizations. 2. Rya Making her Middle School Volleyball Team

I wanted to put this as #1, but this is supposed to be a special work highlights countdown—so I put it at #2 instead. Rya showed dedication and hard work to practice, try out, and earn a spot on her middle school volleyball team. The best part—albeit the toughest too—was when she lost her spot on the team and then practiced extra hard to re-earn her spot on the team and end the season as a starter. Go, Rya!

1. Starting to Write our Next Business Book

That’s right………! Dr. Villa and I are working on a new book! I also have a new keynote coming(!) that we are incredibly excited about. It’s an evolution in our work that combines and builds on all our business research and behavioral discoveries for leaders to drive results in very competitive markets. Much more to come in 2024, but this is the #1 focus of our upcoming year. There are great things ahead and we can’t wait to share more with you next year!

CGK President Jason Dorsey loves speaking to CEOs. He believes they bring candor, aren’t afraid to dive deep into insights and trends, and ask great questions. So, when JP Morgan reached out to him with an invite to come speak in Cartagena, Colombia at the Latin America CEO Summit, it was an immediate “yes!”.

This was his 6th time speaking for JP Morgan, but his first time speaking for them in Latin America. As the history aficionado and trends researcher he is, he was more than excited to go explore the culture, history, vibrancy, intelligence, and emerging trends found there. He also finds that audiences in Latin America love to laugh and bring fantastic energy to his interactive presentations.

This event was filled with the leading CEOs across the region and included some amazing event experiences from food to history. One unexpected highlight for Jason was sharing the stage with Secretary Leon E. Panetta! Secretary Panetta’s presentation and perspective were deeply fascinating, filled with stories Jason had only seen in news headlines, and he answered questions with authenticity and humor.

In Jason’s keynote, he shared CGK’s latest discoveries into trends shaping generations, how they apply in Latin America, what we’re seeing as Gen Z emerges, and what this means to employers, brands, entrepreneurs, and leaders. And the interaction was off the charts—and even with simultaneous translation!

Creating a CEO Summit for a major global region is challenging from content to logistics, but this one had all the best elements and Jason got to explore lovely Cartagena. Jason feels that Latin America is often overlooked yet there is so much going on there that deserves greater recognition.

For Jason, getting to be in Colombia, exploring Cartagena, and sharing meals and conversations with the CEO attendees reinforced to him the incredible opportunity and energy across the region. It was an experience he will always remember.

1-  Every generation plans to prioritize leisure travel in 2024. In fact, 64% of global travelers say they aim to reduce other areas of personal spending to prioritize leisure travel in 2024.

2-  The top reason all four generations want to travel: Rest and Recharge

3-  **Sleep Tourism** is a real trend and is here to stay. In fact, Gen Z and Millennials are the most likely generations to bring their own pillow!

Yes, the study found that Gen Z and Millennials were the most likely generation to bring their own pillow with them when they traveled. Have you ever done that? The CGK team was excited to learn that at select Hilton locations, they offer a Pillow Menu. Seriously. Guests can select their favorite pillow. Brilliant.

Jason did each of the TV interviews from a live TV setup on a balcony overlooking the beautiful San Antonio Riverwalk at the stunning Canopy by Hilton San Antonio Riverwalk. The CGK team is excited to announce the release of the Hilton 2024 Trends Report, and there’s a special reason for our enthusiasm. In addition to being passionate about data-driven trends and insights, our very own President, Jason Dorsey, had the honor of representing Hilton’s global findings as the spokesperson!

Jason was excited to collaborate with Hilton’s great team on this outstanding global trends research study. The third-annual study included more than 10,000 participants from around the world. There are many great discoveries that dive into every key aspect of travel and reveal surprising insights about the future of travel around the world by generation and more.

On the study’s website, you can also read a great introduction to the study by Hilton President and CEO, Chris Nassetta, as well as Jason’s foreword about the study’s discoveries, importance, and insights for travelers of every generation, and for both leisure and business travelers. Here is a quote from Jason’s foreword to the Study:

“The Hilton Trends Report fills an important insights gap by exploring four different generations of travelers — and uncovering early signs of Gen Z’s emergence as travel trendsetters from technology, food and work to wellness, leisure, and cultural experiences.”

Below are four of CGK’s favorite findings from the 2024 Hilton Trends Report:

  • Across all four generations in the global study, the No. 1 reason people want to travel in 2024 is to rest and recharge
  • 80% of travelers, including 86% of Millennials and 83% of Gen Z, said it’s important to be able to book their entire trip online
  • 64% of global travelers say they aim to reduce other areas of their personal spending to prioritize leisure travel in 2024
  • More than a third of Gen Z and Millennial business travelers say they plan to extend a business trip to enjoy leisure time before or after their work obligations

This event was special to Jason because he got to speak directly to the leaders who make it happen at every store in North America—and a throughline for the entire event was unlocking generational potential. The focus was perfect because these great store leaders create amazing in-store experiences, unlock team member talent, and represent the brand in their communities. They truly meet customers right where they are: in their retail stores!

In Jason’s keynote, he dove deep into the Gen Z landscape—discussing their evolving place as customers, brand fans, and trendsetters. These store managers are on the frontline, navigating generational nuances every day, and their passion for creating a seamless experience shines through.

CGK President Jason Dorsey spoke at the home of modern marketing, and it was everything he imagined it would be and more. Jason spoke at the P&G Headquarters in Cincinnati as he keynoted their Global Leadership Summit. There were senior leaders attending in person and joining at in-person event locations in Singapore and China. It was an amazing experience for Jason and one of the most technologically involved events he has spoken at so far!

We at the Center for Generational Kinetics have a passion for behavioral research, consumer insights, history, and market trends. All of these came together when President Jason Dorsey was invited to keynote the Global Leadership Summit for P&G Skin and Personal Care. What you may not know is that P&G has been in business since 1837! They have navigated—and frequently pioneered—huge market change, consumer innovation, marketplace trends, and they essentially invented modern marketing and formalized the entire concept.

Knowing they have deep expertise in consumers, insights, data, and trends meant Jason could deeply focus on the “why” behind the behaviors we are uncovering as Gen Z rapidly emerges, share our discoveries across generations to create Generational Context, and bring it together for a global audience of results-driven leaders.

Jason got to share his latest Gen Z consumer discoveries—and there are a lot of them!—as well as how we’re seeing hidden Gen Z trends reshape markets, consumer expectations, and workforce realities. Jason then got to host a lively, candid panel with Gen Zers from around the world sharing their point of view One of Jason’s favorite parts was answering questions live from senior P&G leaders in Singapore and China on camera. Their questions were thoughtful and data-driven.

To add to the dynamic, this was Jason’s third(!) event for this great organization and its subsidiaries. He previously keynoted a full-day innovation event in Singapore, delivered an interactive, virtual program on Zconomy during Covid, and now keynoting this global event hosted by the always-inspiring Markus and his amazing team.

We are deeply grateful to the amazing P&G team for making one of Jason’s career dreams happen: speaking about marketing at the home of modern marketing—and to the senior leaders who are leading marketing innovation right now. Plus, Jason got to experience their wonderful culture firsthand at a great lunch with the leaders and broader stakeholders.

What do you think makes a great meeting or event? Our President, Jason Dorsey, had the honor of speaking for Visit Orlando and was blown away by how well-done the event was. All six of the elements that he finds create an amazing event were on display at the Visit Orlando Business Insights Meeting. Below are the elements that made the event for 1,000+ leaders such a “wow” experience for Jason and their attendees:

1- Sharing the “why” upfront: The Visit Orlando leadership team kicked off the event sharing the passion and commitment they have for the work they do. It was awesome!

2- Highlighting new *data*: The presentations included brand-new data revealing the hidden trends, ROI, and regional impact of the organization. It was powerful and there were consistent “wows!” across the room as the data was shared.

3- Honoring inclusion: Speakers shared why they are focused on making everyone feel welcome when they visit Orlando, whether for work, family, healthcare, or fun!

4- Bringing the energy: They asked Jason to go full out on bringing the energy (his favorite!), laughs, and unexpected discoveries to my keynote. When speaking after a great lunch, this is the best setup for a speaker like Jason. He gets to light them up after they have dessert!!

5- Adding surprise: No attendees—not even Jason—knew that they would get a wonderful Disney concert to close out the event in rhythm and style. Loved it!

6- Making everyone feel valued: All attendees felt included whether first-time guests or long-time supporters. The ovations were loud and meaningful, and the energy was electric from the moment they opened the doors until they sent everybody off with a great vibe and smiles.

Jason gets fired up speaking to Destination Marketing Organizations because they serve every generation in a complex and critical time. This includes a diverse range of stakeholders reflecting every aspect of travel and tourism—such as hotels and restaurants to entertainment and transportation—and less obvious local stakeholders such as healthcare organizations and housing providers to workforce education and civic leaders. It’s a tough, tough responsibility but it’s critical to the health and vibrancy of a region.
